Cheer up your Raining #Summer with…

Okay, so there has been this little grey cloud over the UK since the whole #Remain and #Leave, all of that on top of the #Juneshowers… well, it has been a little gloomy to say the least… and this is even more reason to brighten up your day, and my nature of being a make-up artist and salon owner, I do this with the power of make-up…

Here are five ways I’ve cheered clients up this week – they are all easy ways that you can use make-up to brighten up your day too:

  1. Bring out a smile with some bright lipstick – bright pinks, deep reds and vibrant coral are all on trend this summer 2016.
  2. Add some bronze to the contours of your face… So you can add a summer glow even though the sun is not shining much at the moment.
  3. When it is raining – the sandals are shelved and the shoes and boots come back out – so get your fingernails painted or gelled to add some vibrancy to the rain mac and umbrella. Bright corals and metallics are a must this season.
  4. Apply fake lashes and add lots of mascara, so you can add a sparkle to everyone’s day by showing off your eyes – remember to wear waterproof mascara to avoid smudges down your face when it randomly begins to rain.
  5. If there is no sunshine, it is likely that the sunglasses will be back in the case – so it is the perfect opportunity to add some bright eyeshadow – use a colour that suits your eyes – but be brave and go bright!

Happy summer everyone rain or shine!

#Happy Birthday to Pinkies

Pinkies

It is a very moving and lovely day to be celebrating Pinkies’ 5th birthday. I am very grateful to all of my customers, and of course to my staff… Thank you!

Five things I love about having my own salon:

  1. It provides a space for clients to feel at home so we can bring out their beauty in comfort.
  2. It means I get to interact with new and existing customers in person.
  3. In this modern world of technology, it feels great to have a traditional style business.
  4. I literally get to add a touch of pink to everything, which I’m not sure my husband would approve of at home.
  5. It was my dream to have a salon, so I’m literally living my dream.

Happy Birthday Pinkies!

#Hygiene #Tips for #Beauticians

salon PinkiesHaving worked in this industry for many years, it is always important to cover all aspects of business, not just the beauty stuff and the fun stuff… If you are operating a salon you need to ensure that your hygiene is top notch for the health and safety of you, your employees and of course of your clients… And because you want to make sure your clients say positive things about their experiences too.

Here are 5 simple tips… but there are many areas that need to be considered…

  1. Always wash your hands… this is so important and seems simple, but our fingertips carry many germs, so before every client ensure you wash hands with warm water, larva up the soap and work in-between the fingers and dry with a paper towel, you can also use sanitiser.
  2. Ensure the treatment rooms have a change of towels, sweep up of floor (don’t kick up dust, instead use a wet cloth to get rid of it), and a blast of fresh air from an open window… obviously ensure the room is nice and warm ready for when the next client arrives to give them the comfort they need.
  3. If you sneeze due to a cold or allergy then do so into your elbow… on to your hand will mean having to wash all over again, and out in to the air will obviously spread germs. Ideally, you will be able to get to a clean tissue in time and can have a quick wash of hands if need be.
  4. Ensure the toilet room is checked throughout the day, and cleaned thoroughly at the end of each day.
  5. Fresh breath… after eating have some water and a peppermint. Coffee can make the breath smell unpleasant, as can some foods, so be mindful of how close you are to your clients and how the smell of your lunch from your mouth can effect their experience in the salon… always have your mouth, body, hands and the air in the salon as fresh as possible.

I hope this helps with any new beauticians starting out in their own salons… good luck.

#Shoot at the #Salon

March14March has been a busy month… I’ve had brides, a busy salon, travelled to London for a corporate video working with a crew and actors, and even on my day off, I’m applying make-up… watch this space for some images from today’s shoot and from the photo shoot on March the 7th last week working with Photography Ryan Cox, and today with Samantha Jones… not to mention Amy from the V Team (Vicki Lord, best bridal hairdresser in the UK and good friend of mine).

Thank you to the lovely models too… looking forward to showing everybody these looks and how I achieved them…

Here is a sneaky peak of today’s shoot.
