@vickilordhair goes for purple on #QVC

Nails by KelliWaldockVicki Lord was the hair expert on QVC again last month, and she opted for a daring shade of purple to match her iconic, bold copper bob… Vicki chose matching make-up and came to visit me at Pinkies a day before the filming to ensure her nails looked amazing on camera when she was holding the compact T3 hairdryer. The purple is super sexy, and bold, and stands out beautifully against the white product.

Vicki had a nail injury, so having the bright colour on all other nails took the attention away from the bandage a little.

I wonder what colour nails Vicki will opt for on her next appearance?

#Nails and #Lips

SnapseedI am all for matching lips and nails… sometimes this can look over the top though…

Contrasting is a great way to do lips and nails in the same colour:

  1. You can do a lighter shade on the nails, and add one accent nail, perhaps with glitter too.
  2. You can go matt on the nails and glossy on the lips, but with the same colour.
  3. If you are going for a really dark nail colour, then it is best to come down a shade or two for the lips, to avoid looking too gothic, or making the lips look too skinny.
  4. You can choose super shiny or glitter nails, with a matt lipstick in the same colour.
  5. Some colours just looked right paired with nails and lips, and this is a bright red, or a neutral/nude colour.

#Makeup of Love for #Valentine’s Day

For those who are dreading Valentine’s Day because you are single… please don’t look at it in that way, instead see it as an opportunity to dress up and look stand-out amazing, and go out on the town with your single friends… And add a touch of passion with your make-up…

  1. LIPS: Go for a bright red or shocking pink, these pouting lips will attract some nice flirting, but may not be a good choice if you are thinking of having a sneaky single snog… it can be very messy and you will be caught red faced afterwards. You can always opt for high-gloss kissable lips instead.
  2. EYES: Go full-on with the sultry black eyeliner and smokey look, this adds sexiness and mysteriousness to your make-up.
  3. NAILS: Go long, go gel, and go bright… anything that stands out and says Proud to be Single… orange, purple, blue, sparkles… If you want to send a special message that you are looking for love, go for the cliche red or pink, and point in the direction of the guy you want affection from… he is sure to notice those Valentine nails.

Your Festive Nail Questions Answered

I need help choosing nails to go with my predictable, but sexy little black dress for a Christmas party, am I best off getting them done in a salon?

The choices of nail treatments, polishes, and gels are more extensive if you go to a salon, and you can include a pre-Christmas pamper too… As well as asking advice from the nail technician and actually seeing the colour wheels and finishes to help you choose.

If you are doing your own nails at home then choose a good quality polish, apply it somewhere ventilated, and ensure you leave enough time for the coats to dry. A salon can do all of this for you, plus Gelish nails applied in a salon can last up to three weeks, as long as you look after them… so wear rubber gloves to wash up the dishes, or better still, leave them for someone else to do.

What are my colour options?

You wouldn’t believe how many colours there are in gels and polishes, and now chrome… and there are plenty of choices in the shops too, but with Christmas, you may want to go festive with a red, or gold, even a white with lots of glitter.

Isn’t red and sparkle a bit predictable?

Yes, it is, but it is Christmas. When else can you get away with amazing red sparkly nails? And with a black dress it does look stunning, because it lifts the whole outfit; whilst the dress choice maybe predictable, the nails make the outfit striking and interesting.

What is perfect for a party, but also Christmas day with my family?

Nail choice really depends on the individual. I have clients that will only wear natural polish or subtle colours, so for characters like these, I’d suggest adding a little sparkle just to lift the look for the party, and because the nails are subtle they will be fine for a day with the family. Other clients love bright colours and would wear nails like this with their family, but to add extra glitz for a party, an accent nail can be decorated with glitter or nail art.

What are the trends for this Christmas?

This year it is all about the #chrome. Rockstar is a favourite for the party season, because it is so sparkly.

I keep seeing loads of hashtags about chrome nails, what are they and are they good for Christmas?

They are the most popular nails at the moment! Chrome nails have a mirror-like finish and look amazing with any outfit, and turn a plain black dress from sober to super sophisticated and on-trend… And they can be applied over gel. The colour of the chrome depends on what colour has been applied beneath.

Is it too much to match lipstick with my nails?

Not at all, I think if you have a popular lipstick colour that you wear then matching the lipstick and nails together looks great, especially for a party and to elevate a plain dress.

Do I need to match toenails and fingernails?

This totally depends on the individual’s choice; I have clients that love matching both, and I have other clients that like to have different colours on their toenails and their fingernails. A popular look is to have the same colour on both fingernails and toenails, and then add sparkle to either to make one or the other more of a statement.

What do you think Mrs Claus – yes Santa’s wife – would choose for her festive fingernails?

Red sparkle of course!

Vicki Lord’s Nails for QVC

I have worked with Vicki Lord on a number of projects – her styling hair, and myself doing nails or make-up… She is a good friend and lots of fun to work with. As a local to my Pinkies salon, she visits to get the superstar nail treatment. Vicki was in the salon for the best nail advice and application just before her #QVC debut last week – with close up on nails, it was important that she had them looking shiny and stunning, without them clashing with any of her chosen outfits for the six shows over two days.

Here is a screen shot of the colour and finish… Of course the hairdryer was the star and Vicki the expert – but the nails did look fab without taking the limelight.nails-on-qvc
