Soft contouring: I love this inspirational bridal look. It just makes me think of a mid-to late summer wedding! I’ve gone for really subtle contouring to give some retro Hollywood glamour and used brown tones to create a warm smoky eye with a hint of gold and a long, yet natural lash effect.
Did you notice I matched the lip colour to the flower corsage?
If you do decide to go for a flower adornment double check with your client which flowers she will be carrying in her bridal bouquet to get a perfect match. Check out my post on tips for trial bridal make-up consultations here: https://kelliwaldock.co.uk/2017/10/10/what-is-a-bridal-makeup-trial/
Side-wept: Get handy with the curling tongs, clips and fixing spray to get this glamourous side-swept bun. Remember to section hair off at the front before you start for tousled curls to frame the face! Hair by Vicki Lord and photo by Lorraine Lucas.
This soft and effortlessly gorgeous bridal hairstyle really draws attention to the eyes and keeps long hair tamed during a summer wedding. Teamed with a flawless complexion and soft pink blush, these beach babe curls look amazing.
Creating the curls
To get the look, section the hair off from ear-to ear and tie the top into a knot ready for later. Take the lower section and tie it into a bun at the back of the head, securing it with pins.
Then take the top section of the hair and create some beach waves with a curling tong. Twist and fix it with spray to set the curl. Take the curls and secure them around the bun at the back, making sure to leave a loose curl to frame the face and that the bun is concealed.
Fix with spray and keep the curls relaxed and slightly tousled for an effortless look! You can add flowers and gems for more sparkle! Check out my short-hair-rescue tips for some more ideas: https://kelliwaldock.co.uk/2018/05/22/short-hair-rescue-three-styles-for-any-occasion/
Try it… How does it look?
*I did the makeup on this bride, and a hairstylist did the hair.
This timeless bridal look is all about bewitching eyes, light blush, soft lips and a gently sweeping up-do – ideal for spring and summer weddings.
I especially love this bridal hairstyle. It creates an elegant profile that works gorgeously with a veil or a tiara or both!
And even matches a change of outfit for the reception. It’s also the ideal style for a prom, although it does take a bit of practice with curling tongs and clips to get the look.
As for the make-up I’ve gone for an air-brushed complexion and dreamy, neutral eyes in warm smoky tones and a soft blush combined with totally kissable rose, pink and nude lips!
I love this picture of Hannah Bella from a photoshoot we did three years ago, so you can imagine how pleased I felt when I saw she reposted it just recently.
Hannah still loves this look too- it’s timeless and as show-stopping now as it was back then!
Hannah’s eyes are really attention-grabbing in this picture. I used an intense black kohl liner on both the upper and lower lids and then used a lash curler and some additional lashes, then emphasised the look with lashings of black mascara on the upper and lower lashes for a totally hypnotic effect.
The black brings out the warm brown tone in Hannah’s eyes. I’ve created a totally air-brushed finish for Hannah’s skin, so she has a soft-focus finish, and rounded off the look with a bright and slightly shimmery tropical pink lip colour which perfectly suits Hannah’s porcelain skin tone, not to mention that flower in Hannah’s naturally tousled hair! Gorgeous Hannah! Have you got any timeless make-up looks that you love as much now as you did when you used to wear them?
Lots of clients got in touch when I wrote about summer skin back in May – take a look if you haven’t already: https://kelliwaldock.co.uk/2018/05/30/summer-skin-my-top-tips/ and wanted to hear more beauty advice about skin. With the heatwave well and truly on, if you’re planning on getting and keeping great skin this summer, take a look at my top summer skin tips that I find make a huge difference, especially when I’m working long hours in the hot weather…
Less is more
A good moisturiser with SPF is ideal for the summer – it protects your skin from the sun and lets it breathe a bit. Try a BB or CC cream if you prefer to go for light coverage or need a more polished look for work.
Water and fruit instead of sugary snacks
Drink lots of water. Plump and hydrated skin is healthier, looks amazing and creates a much easier base to apply make up! You’ll also find that a little make-up goes a long way for a lighter made-up look. And eating fruit and veggies helps to keep your skin plump too – so get a breakfast smoothie in first thing for all your skin-boosting vitamins or pack one with you so you’ve got some skin-boosting vitamins on the way to a shoot.
Get an exercise glow
If you’re skin is sweating then it stays clearer, healthier and you get a natural, youthful glow – do anything you like – yoga, Pilates, jogging, spinning classes, running on set in between camera flashes to powder away shiny noses – anything – as long as it gets your blood pumping! Remember to cleanse your skin after a work-out and before applying make-up!
All-over body scrub
There are some great charcoal-based beauty products available right now which cleanse and exfoliate at the same time – cleaning make-up and sun cream off thoroughly helps keep your skin blemish-free. I like the one-minute self-heating mask from Bioré for a budget-friendly quick fix. Don’t stop at your face though – you can get an exfoliating glove and give your entire body a going over while you’re there and apply loads of moisturiser afterwards for baby soft skin from head to toe.
Sleep and moisturisers
Get an early night or two and just be amazed at the difference it makes to your skin and your eyes the next morning! Your moisturizer will also have a bit more time to nourish your skin while you’re sleeping. Promise yourself to be in bed and asleep before 10pm just twice a week, especially if you are up early for a shoot the following morning!
Give it a try and let me know if you feel a difference …

I also love trying the new ranges available on the market and updating my bag of beauty tricks with new inspirational beauty products.
I’ve just tried out these Hydrolats from Base Formula in Rose Otto and Orange Flower.
I love the fact that they are in a pump-action spray and totally plant and flower-based.
The Orange Flower one smells amazing and when I sprayed it onto my skin it felt like a refreshing and revitalising mist.
The neroli fragrance is quite calming but uplifting too, especially on aching flip-flopped feet coming into Summer.
It’s in my bag and ready for my next early morning!
The Rose Otto Hydrolat feels quite moisturising and light.
The rose fragrance is comforting and although it is distinctive, it is not at all overpowering. I like to use this one in the evening, either a quick spritz on my skin, or as a refreshing body mist after my shower or as a room spray.
I love the fact that these aromatherapy sprays are natural and can be used with other natural products and creams.
I don’t know about you, but I do love a bit of every day luxury and these sprays feel like a mini-holiday after a few hours on set.
I will certainly be recommending these for brides to pack in their honeymoon case too.
Here is a link to the range of Hydrolats https://www.baseformula.com/hydrolats from Base Formula if you’d like to know more about them. I’m looking forward to trying out the lavender and chamomile ones too!
